Piggy Back Topic: Seeding Marsh Ideas/Methods

I’ve use 1” poly rope to block canal entrances to keep hyacinth out of a duck hole with good success. It provides enough tension that the hyacinth stacks up against the floating rope. Zip tie it off between two poles and leave enough slack for tide movement. It may not keep it all out but will be a big improvement. Would also be much easier to handle than the orange fencing.

13-13-13 at 150-200lbs per acre. Depends on the type of ponds and when you got water back, but I fertilized ponds about three weeks ago. Was on time regarding the small ponds that didnt get water back until Late Feb/March, but may have been a little late on the bigger ponds that hold water.

Regardless, Bertha came through and likely diluted it. May reapply mid august

we dont seed anything - just let it enhacne the natural stuff. We Just fertilize the ponds (riding around with a broad caster in a boat and putting it out or broadcasting it by hand). Do not just pour it out like corn - a pile of it will kill anything immediatley around it.

the idea is you broad cast it and as the tide comes in and out it pulls the fertilize through the snot, eel grass, coon grass, etc and adds some more nutrients to it. (at least that has always been our thought on how it works).

we also fertilize the hell out of the edges of our blinds. helps with late season cover and makes grass a little taller.

That has just been the mixture we have found works well for us in SELA (Biloxi Marsh/Chef Pass).

If you are putting in land locked ponds or ponds with less tide - dont put out as much 13-13-13
