Looking to make a trip soon and chase some small water smallmouths in the yak. Anyone live up that way and can recommend one or the other? May try to do two short trips that way I can hit up both rivers in 2 days. Or an overnight trip on one

Are you looking at going during the week or weekend? No chance I’d go to current on the weekend due to the number of people floating and boats on the water. Eleven point is awesome. Went on a 22 mile float on Eleven a few years ago and slept on the bank in a tent. Was great. Could easily do both tho as they’re only about an hour away. Jacks Fork up around Eminence is nice as well.

I have never been, but a guy I know used to catch a lot of smallmouth on the Caddo River out of his canoe.

Might want to check that one out also.

11 Point this time of year will be more tranquil. The Current will probably have better fishing, but not as scenic and have more traffic. I'd do the 11 Point.

11 point is quite a bit less commercialized than current since its majority owned by National Scenic Riverways. In other words there isn't a house every 50 yards on the bank like on Current. If you do Greer to Riverton, the Whitten Access close to halfway has some decent spots to pull of and camp.

I live on the lower Current, I'm almost at the AR/MO line. Honestly if you are paddling I'd stay away. Tons of big boats down here, no HP limits once you get into Carter Co. Go upper Current or 11 point.

I tracked it out and was think whitten or maybe travel a little further to some islands near Freeman hollow so I could fish more the 2nd morning.

Also I was looking at current river up near akers ferry to round spring for that float. I read that the river gets heavier boat traffic south

Thanks again for the responses

Yeah up around Eminence isn't bad. I'd stay far away from Van Buren and Doniphan on the Current tho. Granted during the week isn't as bad, but the boat traffic is ridiculous. And as stated above, south of the bridge in Van Buren is no motor restrictions. Think big blocks running 60-70mph plus on a fairly narrow river. North of the bridge is a bit more tame with a 40HP restriction but a lot more traffic in that area.

Was fantastic trip so far. Camped at a small free spot on fourche lake. Went down 11 point from riverton to hwy 142. Only saw a few bass boats in the last 1/4 of the trip. May have been on the water too early. Caught a few early but long stretch of nada. Then they were on fire in the last half. Had 5 go over 15" so good day in my mind. Biggest was at 17.5" current is faster than other rivers I have fished. Hook a fish and you better be careful of what obstacles are downstream. Had 2 close encounters to flipping.
