to everyone........except Demon
Dark brown stencil going on tomorrow, just trying to figure out how to place it without blocking everything else.

I appreciate the pace of this project. I have 3 kids. It took me 6 months to fix my Chapman and I still haven't finished it!

The fast pace is due solely to the pirogue being in my shop at work and me being the only one that works at the shop.

I would stop with the stencil, and attempt a log/branch looking thing long ways down the boat over the grass stencil.
Then go over that one more time with the black stencil.

You bring a great idea to the table clay, now I just have to figure out how to engineer this log into the spread.

I would take a broad brush and do a dark brown log looking thing. Then take the black and put little lines here and there running down it to give it a bark look.
Here is my quick attempt at it with paint...

10/4 Thanks for the idea. Im limited to rattle cans at the moment but I might be able to tape off a branch shape across the whole boat and spray it with the dark brown.

Shot of dark brown this morning. I might add some satin green and a little more black/dark brown to break up that light color. I like the look of it, but the traditional "shadowgrass" color stands out too much, especially the terrain I hunt. I am more of a nat-gear guy, but could not afford the $100 stencil.
Clay, the thought of doing the tree branches was awesome, but stressed me out just thinking about it, I appreciate the idea (and drawing)
Can't tell too much of a difference in the photos, but it looks nice in person. Paint still fresh so looks spotty. I plan to have the stencil work tied in and done today. Next will be seats and a little repair work up front.

Done with paint
Got the dark brown sprayed, then went over with the satin green (a little lighter than the color of the boat). I still wanted to break up the light brown and the pattern in general, so I angled the stencil and hit the middle with black to finish it off.
I have some rustoleum rubberized spray coating i am going to lightly hit the inside with (I have a few spots of the foam that are chipped away).
The pattern is a little redundant, and I have a couple of run marks from the stencil getting heavy, but overall I am pretty pleased with the final paintjob. It will work for what I am going to do with the boat, and when it gets scratched, I can just toss the stencil on there and hit the spots that need it.

That looks great. Smart to paint some at diagonals.
Are you going with traditional seats or snap down cushions?

Thanks man I really appreciate it. I am going to try out a fixed base swivel and folding plastic seat on the back, and a drop in base up front so I can easily remove the seat when not needed.
Worst case scenario is that the seat is too high to comfortably paddle. If so, I am going to get 3/4" plywood, fix it to the floor somehow (strong epoxy I guess), and get a 7" tall seat base. They sit at 13" right now.

Light coat of rustoleum rubberized sealant. Not too pretty but there were a few chips in the foam that I wanted to hit pretty heavy, and just a light coat on the floor and side walls. I also wanted to break up the light colored floor for hunting purposes. After looking at it enough, I am about to take the stencil all the way up to the front.

Got the holes filled and painted, put bow / stern light mounts on and painted (mainly just to fill holes), got seat in (ended up going with OD Green), and carried stencil up front and a little on the top. I got a little rushed and sloppy with the stencil work up toward the nose, but for right now I think it will do the job.

I like it!
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the original pirogue?

Thanks! My dad got it a few years ago from one of his friends here in Bossier. I think it originated from Moore's Pro Gator in Benton

You're doing a really nice job on that. Makes me want to have something similar.
Are you going to trailer it of just put it in back of your pickup?

I am just going to throw it in the back of my truck, its not nearly as heavy as it looks.
