I have had old timers always tell me that the peer and bank fishing for bream and catfish has to be in the sweet spot between 62-75. Took the kids just to mess around yesterday and the water was cold like under 60 for sure.
how much validity is that magic number of 62 to get the bream up close?
or any fish for that matter? We had a blast and drowned some worms but didn't even get a nibble.

Mid 60's is about when the bream move up shallow to spawn. So, they are correct.

A lot. They bed late compared to sac a lait and bass. Usually May is prime time bream fishing up shallow.

I start catching baskets full of bluegills and redears from shore right around the beginning of may. I keep all the ones big enough to eat, and put the smaller ones in my bait tank under the carport for bait.
Waters are still dern cold here in Oklahoma but once they start warming up it usually happens quickly. Late April to early May is usually that time. I usually use the morel mushroom emergence as a guide up here. Typically when the redbuds are blooming and the morels are growing, the crappie are spawning, the sunfish are starting to push shallow and the flatheads begin to gorge on everything they can find.
