Good afternoon all I'll make this quick. What is dehooking device according to Federal law in regards to reef fishing?

Is there a specific tool that is legal or do pliers and catfish flippers suffice?

Apologies for my ignorance I wasn't raised offshore fishing.

I can’t speak for him but I have one of those and they definitely work. Keeps my hands far enough away from a mouthful of ‘cuda teeth.

Beats the heck out of needle nose pliers.

Ive always landed the fish with hook in and get him immediately to the cooler. Let him flip for a bit and settle down. Grab the pole and pull him out of the cooler JUST far enough to expose his head. Put pressure on cooler top with his head pinched and de hook the fish. Open the cooler top and he slides right back in. Piece of cake.

the dehooker is for fish you release, not for the ones you keep
