That was probably your post that made me think to check it. Even if the Gen 3s work with my new build, I'll probably buy Gen 2s going forward because I would like as much universality as possible. We rarely shoot the old rifles anyway, but one never knows, does one?

Somehow over the years a couple dozen metal mags have found their way into my possession.

Yeah - I have a couple of Beretta 92 mags, too. Weird, huh?

I had a bunch too. Sold them all in the 2013/2014 scare and bought a small island with the proceeds where we now practice yoga and host global warming conferences. I've seen the light.

All the ar mags I had left had the old school black followers.

For the reasons stated above about pmags are the reason I just run gi mags. They work and are cheap, if one doesn't work rebuild it or trash it. I have 5 pmags and that's enough.

Anybody have one of these they want to sell...

I just finished buying all my parts from brownells and palmetto. Now all I need is this sight. I'm looking to make an "Mforgery".

It would have to fit a .750" barrel however.

Also, is it okay to have a fully auto bolt in a semiauto rifle? The only difference I know of it the cut at the back of the bolt. Any legal issues? Palmetto had one on sale for $75 that I picked up.

I have a bunch of those. However, mine are not pre drilled like the one pictured. Do you plan on pinning it yourself or do you need that done as well?

I was hoping I could find a used one that I could just pop on with no problem. Am I going to have to do anything to the barrel for installation?

Bought this as well...
...for this.

Bump for my previous question.

And also, how long does it take to receive your parts from Palmetto or Primary Arms? My orders on Palmetto from Monday still say that they're processing.

My order from PSA was 3 full business days between placing the order and it being shipped.

Couple questions

If you were to build a long range AR what would the difference be in that and a closer range one? Basically, I want to build a long range AR and I'm curious what would be different about it than the one I built... other than optics of course.

What would be the longest range I would be able to shoot accurately?

Those don't just pop on. They have to be drilled and pinned. Its easiest to drill both the FSB and barrel at the same time. Why they sell FSBs that have been pre-drilled is beyond me, it makes the job so much harder than it has to be.

Nope - and good luck with that step of the build. Stuff like that scares me away from building an upper at this point. A monkey like me can assemble a lower, but by the time you get the barrel, gas block and FSB on - that just seems like too many things that can go wrong for my tastes.

To each his own.

Completely fine. BCM, for example, sells thousands of them.

None. At the end of the day - on a rifle, the ATF regulates barrel length, overall length and the fire control system. If you deviate too far from "norm" (like a bump fire stock, or a Sig brace on a pistol, etc.), I recommend keeping a copy of the compliance paperwork stored in the stock or pistol grip so there are no problems/questions. But, the bolt is completely fine.

If the fire control system is fully auto - regardless of the bolt or rest of the configuration, THAT'S when you're going to have legal problems if it is not a registered machinegun.

Well - the starting point is, generally, the Mk12 - not saying you have to make a clone or even fully replicate the capabilities (because there are a number of things I will do differently) - but, key points:

- You will probably go with a 16 or 18 inch barrel in a long range carbine (if not a full 20" rifle barrel).

- You will probably select a heavier, perhaps even fixed, long range stock.

- You will be less concerned about weight and more concerned about stability and accuracy

- You will spend more on the barrel and trigger

Just off the top of my head. And the optics will be more traditional rifle scope options, rather than all the gee whiz, high speed red dot, ACOG and the like for CQB and intermediate range ARs.

$23.50 for the FSB and $50 if you want me to pin it to the barrel for you. I do not know if you already have a front sight post kit (sight post, spring and plunger), but you will need that as well. I am currently out of stock on those.

A long range ar would be a minimum 24" barrel and a magpul prs type stock. Of course a scope. You get the picture.

A close range ar would just be a normal carbine.

A mk12 will kind of combine the 2, but the 18" barrel does not give the velocity of the 24.

Do you really want to get into long range shooting? Do you have the land or a range available for it?

A good mix between the 2 would be a 20" samr type rifle with a 3-12x scope. I had a mk12, it was fun. If you want the 18" barrel get one with the rifle me try has system.
