They are very good, beaver is also very good. What freaks people out is their naked tails and people calling them nutria “rats”.People, including me,have an aversion to eating certain animals for not really good reasons.Ex.- some countries eat horses but I wouldn’t want to but actually there is not much differerence in eating beef, they both live in pastures and eat grass and hay.I eat turtle, frog legs and alligators but I’ll be damned if I would eat rattlesnake, several people have told me they are good.
I know people, mostly women, that won’t eat deer because they are “wild animals”.Something that is really stupid is I have some old hens that need to go in a pot with dumplings but I can’t bring myself to kill and eat them.My old grandpa would be ashamed.

This, and the “nutria rat” moniker doesn’t help. Same with those calling crawfish “mud bugs”.

Would drive members of the LA Crawfish Promotion and Research Board bonkers when the media, TV and Print, consistently would refer to crawfish as “mud bugs” in widely distributed new releases, when at the same time the promotion board was spending money trying to advertise and promote crawfish sales in non-traditional areas, like out-of-State and north Louisiana. After all, who wants to eat a “bug”, and who wants to eat “rats”.

One of Hitler's crony's probably introduced them to Germany.

Just researched a little. Apparently they have been in Germany since the 1920's.

Fur, in general, was very popular back in the roaring 20s. Nutria looked to be a really good candidate for an animal to raise for profit. The results are pockets of growing populations in various places they were introduced. they’re herbivores and tend to like the roots of certain vegetation, hence the destruction of levee systems.

Who lies about Nutria

good point though I’ve seen people lie about all sorts of stupid stuff. I was actually thinking you were probably mistaken but I was clearly wrong

Same here. No way my wife would let me kill one of our chickens.
The older ones are still laying but not very often.
Every time we get a few more she names them.
Can’t make a gumbo with Gertrude or chicken spaghetti with Rose Bud!!!

The Peruvian’s eat the guinea pig as a delicacy. I tried it while down there and didn’t care for.

The state tried to market Asian carp not long ago. Used the name silverfin to make it sound more appealing Didn’t catch on though
