Picked up a NIB Smith 642 3” no lock airweight. Only 500 made in 1993. It’s an aluminum frame so not +p rated. Guy from cutoff had it listed on GB. Called him up and offered him $585 Shipped and he accepted. It didn’t have any bids yet so he was able to close it and not piss anyone off.

Not a semi automatic fan? I have a little Rossi 38 special that I don’t even being to the range. Rounds cost as much as my 357sig and the plastic gun is way more fun to shoot.

That's a steal, if NIB translates into "never fired" 100% with the box, padlock and paperwork for $585.00. Must have a very unique serial number?

It’s never been fired and came with the original box and papers.

I bought a scandium J frame S&W 340PD years ago for $525. I wondered recently if anyone still gave a damn about them, given the availability of lightweight semi-autos for carrying.

The MSRP on S&W's site is $1149, and gunbroker has several listed for $1099. Wow.

I rotate my carry guns. I have a X Macro, Springfield EMP 3 1911 9mm that I carry all times of the year. I have a Model 66 2.5" that I carry in the winter sometime along with a Ruger LCR .357 snubby. The 3" 642 is a really nice carry gun especially being an air weight. I am going to carry the Hornady Critical Defense lite 90 gr. They will be moving at almost 1000 fps out of the 3" barrel.

Just picked it up. Had all the tools and paperwork with the box. It's unfired but does have some handling marks on the grips.

Excuse my ignorance with this question... But how does one know that this is accurate?

The cylinder and forcing cone would have powder burn marks that would be visible. You can clean some of it but not all.

Also the guy I bought it from is a very reputable Smith and Wesson collector/dealer.

I figured something like that would be the answer. Although I thought if it had been fired only a handful of times, it would take some type of technology to verify and not by the naked eye... Interesting

And I know this goes a long long way too

They are test fired at the factory.

This is not true and it seems it was all cleaned at some point to where it doesn't show signs of being test fired either.

Big difference in 2-3 test fired shots and putting a box of ammo through it as far as powder burns are concerned.

And how might you know this?

When I said it was unified I didn’t mean it wasn’t test fired. It means it doesn’t show any signs of being fired outside the factory. I know the difference.

I have 7 NIB Smith and Wesson revolvers that came from the gun store.

As long as you believe it. Regardless, it's still a nice find.
