I am looking for ideas on how to communicate in the woods where there is often little to no cell service. my oldest son is close to being ready to sit alone in a stand near me, but Only if we have a means of communicating with each other.

Can't understand how some hunters with same phone service provider as I get enough service to st least text, while I usually get nothing.

Looking for ideas to boost my phone signal, walkie talkies, or any way to communicate with my young hunter if necessary.

We always used walkie talkies with the volume down real low. You have to come up with a plan to communicate so one person doesn't start yapping when you have a deer staring at you.

I would look at getting a good set of FRS/GMRS radios with ear pieces/headsets.

Something like this.

Me and Dad used cheap 2 way radios when I was a kid. Pretty much was understood that we didn’t talk unless somebody shot or something happened. It wasn’t for conversation.

I'm not sure how well this works, but it sounds pretty cool.

Walkie talkies would be my best idea. Just tell junior to only use it for an emergency so he doesn't spook any deer that may be close by.

Or maybe something like this one that has a silent mode and ability to connect headphones so he can talk to you without getting you busted by the deer. LINK

Same thing, but this one looks cheaper...

gotenna $179

Basically, you get two devices that you bluetooth to each Smartphone and it allows you to text or chat without having a wireless signal.

My friend and I used walkie talkies back in the day. It worked just fine. My boy carries one on his bike around the neighborhood, we never have any issues with range.

It's all fun and games with the walkie talkies until someone hits that tone button on the Motorolas and has the duck setting..

We bought some higher quality walkie talkies and use the secret service style earpieces and lapel clip mic with the little push button to talk.

We use a series of 3 clicks on the talk button if we have deer in close which means "dont talk to me until I say something"
