Need help with removing paint from an A-Bolt

I just got a Browning .270 A-Bolt in a trade and the guy had put a "custom" paint job on it. I'd like to remove it. It's got a synthetic stock. Is there anyway to remove the paint without damaging the stock, or am I better off to leave it alone or take it and have it dipped, and maybe cerakote the barrel and action? He spray painted it camo. It doesn't look horrible, but I'd like for it to look a lil better than it does. TIA

It can be removed, the AR guys paint guns all the time and remove it. I can't remember what is used to remove it, but it can be done...

Thanks Wick. I'm gonna have to do some researching and find out how to go about removing it. Maybe some of the AR guru's will chime in and let me know what they use

Why not just send it off and have it dipped, let the pro's do it for ya. It would cost you about 200 or so.

That's what I'm leaning towards right now. Especially since I've for another shotgun I'm taking to get dipped anyways. I'm starting to think I may dip the stock of the rifle and cerakote the barrel and action

I would suggest acetone or paint thinner.

Yep! Exactly what I thought when he told me "custom". It worked out great for me though. He felt it devalued it enough that he traded it and a Beretta AL391 Urika that had barely been shot to me for my X-Bolt SS Stalker that had the cheapest Leupold you could get on it. Worked great for me cause now I still have a good deer rifle plus a shotgun for my gf to use when she hunts with me. I just can't decide whether to dip it and clean it up or just run her like it is and not ever have to worry about skinning it up
