I will always recommend Simazine for home lawn use. It is what I use in my yard. It is much cheaper and more readily available than Specticle.

You can always supplement the granular application with a liquid based application like BannerMaxx with a backpack sprayer. Sounds like you have soil or drainage issues mixed in there as well.

So if you have a lawn that is decent, only minor weeds that can be sport sprayed..... What should you do to it right now?
fertilizer? ....? .....?

It's still too early to fertilize unless you are using an organic fertilizer. Synthetic fertilizers can be applied after the second week of April. The spring flush with the turf is driven by nutrient storage in the roots. Grass is going through spring root decline, adding foliage growth while depleting the root system. The grass is very suceptible to damage during this period because it doesn't have an extensive root system for regrowth. Stay off the grass with heavy equipment/vehicles during this time. Make sure to water in any synthetic fertlizers when you do put them down to make sure you don't burn your lawn.

Just mow it, and spend the time you would use messing with the weeds doing something else. Consider drinking beer, cooking meat, hunting something, fishing, etc.

Not reading whole thread, has anyone suggested:
1. Roundup
2. Diesel
3. Matches
4. ?????
5. Profit
Because that is my recommendation.
I would be ashamed to show my back yard right now. Was about to spray the weeds when the rains hit. Now they are 2 feet tall and it is still too wet to mow them down.

Just mow it,

The simazine is a better option for non professionals. I have read horror stories about Specticle and the damages that can occur even with experienced applicators. The price coupled with the risk/reward isn't worth it to me. Sounds like y'all have a good system and arse loads of turf so it works for y'all. I wouldn't use that on any of my clients.
