My first ever turkey hunt today

I didn't kill a bird, but man that was fun. A buddy of mine called me up and asked if I wanted to go and so I figured why not.
I've hunted deer all my life, but turkey hunting was such a different experience. I had never realized all of the little intricacies of hunting turkeys!
Ultimately, we got to see 3 turkeys but never got any of them close enough for a shot. We got spotted by 2 of them when we hopped on a road. So we made a big loop around and went into the bottom they headed towards. We got one to gobble back after a few hours and got set up, but he never really came closer than about 200 yards.
Moral of the story, I'll be back!

It's an active sport. Got my daughters hooked very early on. They give 2 shits about deer hunting and aren't disciplined enough to still hunt, but they love chasing birds with me

Just got back from hunting in W Texas and going to hunt them tomorrow in MS. Addicting is an understatement.

Too bad the state didn’t allow us to be in the woods two weeks ago. You would at the very least heard a good show.

There’s nothing else like it, and as my friend and mentor would said… “it’s better than sex.”
But… be sure to join NWTF and/or turkeys for tomorrow. turkey hunters are increasing but turkey numbers are decreasing. There’s many factors, but habitat is a big one, and those groups do a lot to help.
