Had an amazing time this past Saturday. One of the best climbs I've been on. The ridge was very crumbly with a lot of good exposure. Three pitches to climb, one was a good 20 feet with awesome exposure. The final one was a good 50 feet to the base of the summit. I got to lead up a group since we had so many of us. A great experience as I move forward within the club. Total trip was 11.5 miles with 4k feet of elevation gain. Summit is 7794 feet.

View from camp Saturday morning of Washington and Big lake.

Our trip started with 3.5 miles on the PCT to the climbers trail.

There was a fire in the area last year.

Almost to the ridge, our first view of Washington.

On the ridge.

Very crumbly, as are most of the volcanic Cascades.

Summit block, heading up the bowling alley.

Time for the fun chit!

Climb on!

Belaying my team up the third and final pitch.

Summit baby!

Big lake

The Pole creek fire

Broken Top, North Sister, and Middle Sister (L-R)

Three Fingered Jack and Mt. Jefferson (L-R)

The southwest ridge, the way the psychos come up.

Ridge we came up.

Time to rap out!

That makes four summits in less than 8 weeks of being back in Oregon. Hope you enjoyed my pics. As always, it's a blast for me to risk my own personal well being ( ) to show you a side of Oregon most here even never see.

How do you get the gear down (ropes, hardware, etc)after the climb?

I rapped down the final pitch with a rope around my shoulder/waist. The second rope brought down by another leader, and all the hardware was carried up/out with the main leader. He raps out on a double rope so it can just be pulled out of the rap ring. Essentially the rope is at its halfway mark at the anchor.

Eta....to be more specific, he keeps the middle of the rope, through the ring/anchor, and throws the rest down and puts both sections of the rope through his belay device and raps down. He's then able to just pull on one end and it'll come through the ring and fall to him.

Nice pics. I'm always amazed how small everything else looks when up on a peak.

So the only thing left on the mountain is a small ring at the top? Never knew how that was done.

I plan on section hiking the PCT part in Oregon next year. I've done small parts in different parts of the state but I want to knock it out in the 3 separate trips.

It's definitely a blast. You ever head up this way during the summer and I'll get you in on one of our climbs.

The ring and the webbing that is through the ring. The webbing is around the rock.

How do you keep the chair lift to the summit out of all of the pictures? Or, are these climbs done with a green screen?

Kidding - cool pics! How many climbers were with you? Where do you rank in the pecking order of experienced climbers/ technical capabilities in your group?

12 people, we went up in 3 groups of 4. The main leader took up the first group at 6 am and he free climbs everything and sets up all the protection. The 2nd group left at 8 am and my group left at 10 am. We did this so we wouldn't get so backed up and have to just wait around.

Fritz, our leader, is the best climber in the whole club. He's a fearless badass. He leads most of the climbs. He originally was a rock climber. He's climbed Monkey Face at smith rock which, according to the interwebz, has some of the toughest routes in the world.

Out of 12, there were only 3 members including myself. The rest were newbies who just took the clubs class this year but a couple of them are very knowledgable and will be very good mountaineers. Not sure where I rank, not into all that, but I was asked to lead a group up to the summit block and to help belay others and help at the end. I'm still fairly new but I'm learning and eager. There's a lot to learn and then it has to be practiced a lot and shown to others before you're trusted.

He trusted me Saturday with other people so I take that as a compliment. The club has never had an injury on a climb, only club in the state who can say that.

Pretty good trip. We have some around here with similar elevation gain, some are a few hours and others are an over nighter
