What do the locals think about all the now "private" waterways?
Crackerhead, cheramie, and any canal off of grassy lake is private.
Same with the Basin. Only the "lakes" and intercoastal are public. All canals are private as well now

Truth is if he were a white devil with some fly okes, huk gear, a new iberrya haircut and a yeti cap....sneaking into a subdivision lake he did not have permission to be on....
99% of the people bashing him wouldn't be saying shite
Truth be told 3 of my five biggest bass were caught "trespassing" on golf courses.
The petty jealousy amongst some fishermen is sad.
Just like the fly fishermen at pounce on folks that eat fish. He reason despite having a couple of world and state records - I steer clear of most fly fishermen.....

This is the same thing that is raging with the navigable waterways in the marsh. Fisherman are up in arms over not being able to fish canals that run directly through peoples property. On one hand LA tax payers fun coastal conservation on the other hand people do pay taxes on owning said land that happens to have the water running though it.

You will also find cases of people digging out parts of natural bayous or their oilfield canal changed the flow of a natural waterway into their canal drying up parts of the waterway. I guess that is ok also?

I know two things:
1. Louisiana has one of the most fricked up governments and law makers in the union
2. We are one of the only states in the union that has our laws concerning waterways and privacy
I feel good about my stance on the issue because of those two facts

100 percent, its such a quagmire of an issue.

I see it as this:
Did a human dig the canal? Yes, therefore they can have the land they dug. Did the water that fills the canal come from a water hose or public water? It came from public water therefore the water, and everything in the water, is still public

Lets say you dig a pond on your property and used creeks that are on your property to fill said pond. Is that public water? Im playing devils advocate because I see both sides have valid rights to what they are claiming.

When Louisiana politicians are in the minority, you can assume going with the other side is the logical choice.

I have a camp in Pigeon across the levee from the landing and next door to cbr900yadayadayada's camp. I grew up around Verret and still fish down there a good bit. Personally I will say frick the Landry's to their face next time I run into them for gating so many canals that have been publically fished for many generations.

No one likes the canals and bayous gated until it benefits them.
