I am looking to take my Dad on a Merriams hunt in Nebraska or South Dakota. Does anybody have any good outfitters or info about hunting the Indian reservations? Thanks

Get a good report before you go....turkeys are in decline in numbers across the country.
I have hunted the Black Hills in SD for years, tough hunting now....

Indian reservatiuon is your best bet, but make sure you ask them about the popultaion.

Though a bit expensive, but worth it, explore The Lodge at Chama in northern NM. It’s a four day trip in a stellar lodge with world class vistas. Parlay it with rainbow trout fishing and it is a dream Merriam hunt by all standards.

Thank you Oldskule. Do you have to hire an Indian guide on the reservation hunts? I have heard the numbers are down up there. Hopefully we can find an honest outfitter with good numbers. Thanks again for any tips for hunting the reservation

From what I understand it’s more like you give them your $ and some booze and they show you where the turkeys are. You shoot your limit and can pay more to shoot more. They don’t care
