Hey everyone. I'm going to get my first boat after I pass my CPA, hopefully. I've been really thinking about getting the Mako pro 15 after much research. I grew up fishing Delacroix. Now I kayak down in buras mostly. I have a wilderness ride 135 and love it. Very stable.

As far as the boat goes, I'm looking to stay mostly inshore (Delacroix, Shell Beach, Hopedale, rigolets) and wanting something basic, stable, and easy to haul. I really like the Mako hull. Seems the boat will fit my needs. Any thoughts?

I don't own one but a buddy of mine has the Mako Pro Skiff 17 and he likes it a lot. His came with a Merc. No problems so far.

If that is the boat that you have your heart set on, then okay. But do yourself a favor and figure out a way to move up to the 17'. You'll thank me later.

I have a 17' Alweld and love it.... however my next boat will be a Mako Pro skiff 19'. Up till 2017 they had some issues with the live well leaking. They've taken care of that.

I used to have a Pro Skiff 17 with Mercury. No major issues just some typical stuff on all of them. They have a mako skiff forum to address some of them. I would add hydraulic steering as that was a major issue for us. it would freeze up. 15 is a bit small in my opinion. I was the same going to just stay inside and it replaced my aluminum boat. Sold it and upgraded to a 21' Carolina skiff so I could go out to the barges, islands, etc. The mako is too small for that except on the calmest days. I had a crew boat wake break over the bow fishing the jetties and after that I wouldn't go outside much

I'll go ahead and throw in a vote for Honda. Dad has a 90 horse four stroke. Standard maintenance and throw the earmuffs on after we run it to get the fuel out the carb, and it's been running strong.

So I'm leaning towards the 17 now.
