Well in the 11th hour of my week long Ga hunt the hard work finally paid off.
With 5 minutes of light left a doe came in out of a bedding area and I dropped her at 14 paces. With her not acting like she was in heat I thought she had a yearling behind her that I couldnt see. The second deer paced around within 20 yds for almost five minutes in stuff so thick that I couldnt see him at all. He finally stepped out after walking almost directly below me and low and behold it was this 10 pt. It was literally everything I could do to see the pin in the peep but I finally made it out enough to put it off his shoulder and shoot. Couldn't see the hit but he took off like a freight train after the shot.
Two hours later after one of the toughest trailing jobs ever I finally found him. Went 150 yds, even with a perfect hit, due to be jacked up from the rut. He went uphill the whole way, which is a rarity. Last 40 -50 yds probably found one drop of blood every 5-10 yds. Was just about to give up for the evening and come back in the am on my way out of town hoping the coyotes hadn't got him.
Thank The Big Man upstairs he answered my prayer and kept me on the trail that extra five mins.
FTR entry through top of one lung with exit just above back of heart. Lungs were mush. Lesson learned, no matter how good the hit a rutting buck may keep going long after he should be down, so NEVER give up the trail.
:)
P.S. In the moment I apologize to the OB for no obligatory foot. LOL

No doubt but with the clock ticking to zero hour I wasn't going to let my nonresident Georgia license go unused. LOL

Friday was great with the much needed cold front. My morning hunt I was able to watch a very nice 8 pt follow some does in to the oak flat I was hunting and bed down a mere 51 yrs from me downwind. He stayed there for almost 40 mins before getting up to start seeking another hot doe. Pretty cool

FWIW This may be one of the last year's hunting Ga. The cost in the last five years for a nonresident archery deer hunt has gone from $140 to $200 to $300 and is now $375 a year, which to me has gotten utterly ridiculous for a week long bowhunt on private property. Someone needs to slap Ga DNR upside their collective greedy heads and bring this fee back to reality. As a nonresident you are now forced to buy a combo. hunt/fish license and regular hunt license (good for gun hunts) in order to archery hunt, which is fricking ridiculous.
