Driven a boat all my life but never did the boating course. Unfortunately I'm not grandfathered in and I am required to have a boating license. Anyway to get the license without sitting through the 8hr course? Like just a way to take the test without taking the 8hr class?

Yeah I found that and I appreciate the response. But you still have to sit through all of the slides which takes a few hours. Just looking for just the exam if it possible. I know, I'm lazy lol

I don’t know how old you are but per LDWF:
quote:

We encourage every boater to take a boater education course. However, if you were born after January 1, 1984, you must successfully complete an LDWF-approved boater education course to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower, unless you are accompanied by someone over age 18 who has a successfully completed an LDWF-approved boater education course, if required.

I’m much older than the requirement but I took the online course anyway. It only took a couple hours. I learned a few things so I would say it’s worth it.

Considering the kind of BS you see on the water, either not enough ppl are taking it or the class isn't worth a damn. Sucks to sit through a class most of the day and it definitely could take half as long as it does but it's worth taking even if you think you know what you're doing.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

I did it because my wife needed it. I did learn a few things, but the LDWF guy was extremely disinterested in being there. And it was full of young kids who weren't paying attention.

Also, it's all info you can just read.

They really need some kind of operational and trailer driving course but I'm sure insurance ain't covering that.

I just did the online course. I'm in same boat - just miss the cut off and had no idea until recently this was a thing. I did the $30 one, but there is a free one also. The $30 one gives you the license immediately, and the free one takes a few weeks i believe. Took about 3 hours to complete. Some useful information in there, but a bunch of ridiculous stuff also.

It wouldn’t bother me if the state required the written test and water test. Signing loan docs has zero F’ing bearing on water competency.
An abbreviated rules of the road test should also be given.

A buddy of mine is also a green jeans and he said that this year he has seen more dumbasses on the water than many years combined.

Easy to pick out the new boaters, idiot baiters & show boaters on the water. One day it will happen and knuckles will fly but damned if I am going to let idiots be idiots when my boat is involved.
