Several of my friends have the Ruger 556 with thousands of rounds through them with absolutely zero issues. Buy with confidence.

Ruger 556

I'd go with the Aero AC-15M over a Ruger AR. It has a better set of receivers, better bolt, and a better barrel. It's a little more money, but worth it.

And yes, I have both. The Ruger isn't a bad gun, the Aero is just better.

To each his own but I built one with a cheap punch set, screwdriver, mag well and AR multi tool . Larry Potterfield Youtube walked me through it. $420 spent and chambered in .223 all mil spec accessories. I cheated a bit buying the upper completed. Then I built another one and upped the ante. You can built it no problem.

Does anyone here actually own the Ruger 556?

I do, thanks to some a-hole on here that posted they were on sale at Sportsman’s Guide. (I think). I remember several posters here bought one at that time.

I like it..feels solid, never jammed yet and I can hit my target. Not sure what else you need at that price range!

Whoever said the Ruger ARs are crap is an idiot. It's one of the best bang-for-buck entry ARs out there.

I have the Ruger AR and it's been almost flawless. I say almost because I bought some cheap arse Russian ammo (Tulamo maybe?) to target shoot and it just did not care for it. Bought different ammo and never had another problem.

What special tools are needed to assemble one yourself?

Good choice of words. Too many posters on here claim they build their AR's when they're actually just assembling parts.
