This looks like it would be a great option as far as safety goes. Might be a little bulky.

Saddle Hunting Platform from Silent Approach

What I really came to post.

You sunsabitches about to cost me a lot of money. Again. I wish I could go back and find out which one of you on here told me about FieldSupply.

I took a hard look at that and may still try it one day. Just seems a bit cumbersome at first glance.

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like an arborist gone deer hunting.

You'd definitely have to figure out a way to carry it in and out comfortably. It says it weights 1.5 pounds. That looks like it's wrapped around something around the diameter of a telephone pole. Makes me wonder if that's a thinner pole than they portray it. The other pole does look smaller than a telephone pole, but I couldn't tell in the smaller picture that was coming up. Hopefully they're not "Big snaking" us by the angle, and distance from the pole, or something.

The web addresses from the pictures wouldn't post earlier, and I didn't want to have to go post them somewhere, so I just put the link. Now their showing as jpegs, so I posted them.

I’m seeing mixed reviews on Saddlehunter. They hate ratchet straps over there

Agreed. Another thing is seems like over there it’s all about hurrying and being quick. I may take few extra minutes but seem safer and quieter. I highly doubt that using a quick ratchet strap is gonna scare all deer off. And I’d put hand over it, it’s very low sound.

Exactly. I get it though. It’s similar to archery tinkering. It’s an easy rabbit hole to fall into.

The reason it’s hated is because of the noise and other options making its obsolete. Most of the gear uses cam/friction and it’s super easy.

I like having a platform over that because you have more area. I set it at the height of my top stick and have achieved a similar result as that setup. Two places to stand

Have either of you looked into no climbing sticks and using rope ascent? Either DRT or SRT?

I have. Very doable. But you have to carry your rope in, you have to throw your throw bag and get your rope around the limb you want, then climb the rope using either technique. So a lot in the dark.

Seems like a nightmare in the dark, I could also see it limiting your tree selection.

True in dark very difficult. That is why many will scout trees in advance and leave a loop of paracord over a limb. But it does limit your tree selection some. Of course strap 9n steps does too, just different trees limited.

I run 3 hawk heliums w versabuttons. The bottom one has a 5 step aider
May add a single step aider to #2

Saddle is an aero hunter
Ridge runner platform

Ropeman1 on tether and on lineman’s rope

Pack everything in on my Eberlestock X2

Less clanging than a climber. Less noise getting up
