I’m doing the same thing for the 3rd season.

This is the platform I’m using this season (not my but where I got it from):

What’s the base made of?

So that piece of plywood just slips into the top of a step section?

It’s a tree step like the areohunter steps but these are made by primal.

Apparently the primal step works better than the areohunter for this.

Got 4 online for like $20 but were kind of hard to find.

I like it but sometimes worry about using something wood and homemade for my platform. No huge risk being in the saddle but still I’ve thought about it.

Yes, it’s pretty slick. Slides in and out. There was a thread on saddle hunter about this that I’m sure is still there. 3/4” plywood

That’s definitely something to consider. Big money saver for sure.

It is. If you do go the rock climbing harness and sit drag route, I would invest in a lightweight rock climbing harness.

A ropeman 1 is also a must IMO not just for saddle hunters but also for lineman’s belt for anyone running sticks. I was so frustrated when I switched to a lock-on from a climber and had just a prusik knot.

I think I've decided on the jx3 hybrid for several reasons. Number one is comfort. Second is there is no need for a platform, and finally you can pack your sticks in it without having to add anything to the pack. It's about the most expensive one initially but if you factor in not having to buy or build a platform plus the price includes tree teather and everything.

The only thing that gives me pause with the jx3 is shot mobility. It seems like it would get in the way. Might have to look up some videos of it being used. Lead times on a lot of these is outrageous right now too.

Yeah it does look like it could be tough in some instances but from what I've heard and read it's pretty easy to shoot 360. Just have to practice. There's a podcast with DIY sportsman that's 45 or so minutes long and he talks about it the whole podcast. That's what put my mind at ease about it.

The Jx3 is made like that guido’s web I was talking about earlier. The guido’s web is designed so you can walk around the tree to get the shot you want

My rig this year...
Krestle Flex
Predator platform
4 muddy pros

I practiced all summer long with climbing, setting up and shooting. You have to take some time and find out where the tree teather and bridge work best for you comfort wise. I've sat this year for 4-5hrs at times with no problems. Do I get stir crazy and just need to stand on the platform some? Yes. I'm a big guy, 6ft 260#. I've been in trees too large and too small for my climbers. Never once have I felt unsafe. As someone mentioned earlier, correct sizing is key. If you get real serious, most of the guys on SH would probably be up for letting you try one out.

I have a Trophyline Ambush but am still waiting on my Ridge Runner platform to come back in. I hunt on private and have a few lockons, but I liked the idea of just bailing off and not needing to hang a stand.

Using hawk helium sucks with the Amsteel daisy chain ropes. Am going to research the JX3 more for next season due to the lead time. May be great for the rut, but looks a lot more bulky and may restrict shots/mobility even more.

One of my biggest concerns is foot placement whether it be on a Predator style platform or whatever. I wear a 13 boot and those things are tiny.

Well, I have done more digging about “guido’s web”. The original owner of the company sold the design and is now known as the JX3 y’all are talking about. I could tell they were designed the same way, but I didn’t know they were basically the same saddle. I found out on saddlehunter.com. If that was mentioned I guess I missed it

I wear a 13 also. Honestly, when I first started using the muddys when I used a lock on set up, I was more worried then about size of boots than I ever have been on the platform.

I haven't tried a ring of steps, but I would asume they're a lot like a the top step on a stick

Very nice. Solid setup. I’m running something very similar.

That is nice, never heard of H2. Looks like a nicer sit drag.

How does everyone carry their sticks? This is what I tinker with the most. Back and forth from a sling and strapping to my pack currently.
