I won't deny the advantage of speed and tracking. However, being able to carry a yak over various distances without a friend is crucial to me.

Will the OB yackers laugh if I get a solo canoe. Stumbled across this last night. Old Town Guide 119
43 lbs / 450 lb limit, looks good for duck hunting and light fishing.

LSU teams headed to florida to kick some florida schools' asses

Me too, and I already wanted one pretty badly before this thread. I am sure though that when the temp dips below freezing tonight my kayak urges will get squashed just a little.

I think I have narrowed my buying choice down to 3
Native Ultimate
WS Ride 135
KC Kayack
really like the Native and KC due to their openess and stability. All 3 have excellent reviews. Any thoughts from owners of these models?

I had a KC and it was great. When I buy again I will buy another KC. If I wasn't getting a KC, I would get a Jackson Cuda.

I have owned 2 of the 3, and extensively demo'd the 3rd.
I currently have the Native Ultimate tandem and I love it. I fish with my son 90% of the time, so its a good fit for what I need. As has been mentioned many times before, the Native has alot of space if you are a gear hog. It is also pretty light which makes cartopping easy. Downside is that it is not self bailing; you take a wave over the side and it won't drain out unless you do it manually. Really not that big of an issue though as long as you plan accordingly. I always carry a bilge pump and a sponge to take care of whatever water has accumulated (never had to use the bilge on the water yet)
My first kayak was the Ride 135. The stability of the kayak sold me, as did its price! For what they sell for, you would be hard pressed to find a better kayak. People like to say the Cuda is better, yada yada yada. . . but they hardly ever mention the fact that the Cuda is also over $300 more expensive than the Ride. (Personally, I like the Ride over the Cuda anyway) The Ride is a little heavier, but not unmanageable- thats what kayak carts are for. Only downside I found to the Ride is that is not as fast as the Ultimate. A rudder is also a good investment for its tracking ability.
I have demo'd the KC a number of times; the open cockpit is nice as is the fact that I could make it a tandem with the addition of another seat (albeit a small tandem). Very stable kayak, but care must be taken as it is not a rotomolded kayak. The material is not as flexible as the others and could crack if you ram an underwater piling or something like that. Out of the three, the KC is probably the slowest as well, although it is geared for Marsh fishing so speed usually isn't an issue.
If it is just you, then the Ride 135 or Ultimate 12 or 14.5 solo would be your best bets. KC is nice, but I honestly think $1400 is too much for what you get . . . Of course, get out to the demo days and try them all out before you choose.

I am currently looking into getting one. It looks like a behemoth, how difficult is it to transport around. Also where did you purchase yours from?
I have the Cuda 12. I car top every time and I can pick the entire kayak up over my head and on top of the roof rack of my SUV. I'm not a big guy by any means (5'6" - 180). I probably couldn't do that with the 14' though.
I bought mine from Massey's in Baton Rouge.

I am pretty much sold on the Cuda 12. Seems to be the best all around kayak on the market from the reviews I have been reading.
