I went two weeks ago for my first time.

Launched at public boat launch with no problem (it was a Monday)

The plan was to run all through the marshes in search of Reds and then hit Philo islands for the specks. We never limited on Reds, so never made it to Philo
One thing I learned: you will hit shallow water and hit it fast--even if you think you are on a main channel. Jack plate got a workout.

Philo islands

I used to have the coordinates for two completely unmarked oyster reefs on the east side of the Islands. Just out in the middle of the bay. They were so fricken money. If the weather wasn’t total dog crap, we’d limit or come close to it every time. Damn memory battery eventually went out on my old handheld. I had put them on a thumb drive, but I lost that too.

I went this past weekend and limited out on redfish. If you have a small boat that can go in the shallow ponds then try sight casting. I'll give you one hint. Grand bayou blue.

I’ve seen them schooling all around the bridge, and got a decent start on a limit right there.

I dont like fishing with live bait. We were sight casting in the front of the boat with h&h redfish spinner baits. If they snubbed it my gf would catch em with a cork and dead shrimp from the back of the boat.
