have, over the course of 42 duck seasons, occasionally shot a bull sprig pintail. I mean a nice one....if there were such a thing a Boone and Crockett pintail...one for the record books. Shooting pintails ain't all that unusual, depending of course on location, but every so often I have shot a really nice one and when the dog brought it back to the blind the damned thing had transitioned into a red headed merganser

I have seen it. My brother many years ago when he was just getting old enough to hunt in a pirogue by himself. We heard him shoot and then he proceeded to holler at me and my older cuz to not shoot anymore pintails. I told my cousin I didn’t even see any pintails fly over but whatever cool deal.
When the hunt is over he paddles up to us a proceeds to show us his “pintails “ that had somehow transformed into spoonbills!!!
Craziest thing that’s ever happened, we continue to remind him of it 30# years later!!

Same shite!!!! Weird. Now that your brought up the spoonbill incident I vividly remembering an old boy with us one day on the coast of Georgia shooting the shite out of teal and when he retrieved them they had transformed into coots. I was very glad we didn't go to his blind when he hollered he was killing teal left and right because we limited out on teal where we were and when we retrieved them they stayed teal!

I also remember a time another old boy shot a wood duck drake out of my boat blind and when the dog brought it to hand it had transformed into a Kingfisher! Not only had that wood duck changed it shrunk considerable as well....

This ain't confined to duck hunting....I know an old boy who shot 4 dove on a dove field once that transformed into pigeon hawks upon hitting the ground with a load of #8s in their arse.

Heard through the grapevine they asked him what type of bait did he use. He said, “Baw Don’t Fish and Tell, Baw Fish and Lie.

Update. Family reunion on TB, kid takes a kayak fishing and catches a big one. La. side so they take it to Toledo town for the lunker program but couldn’t do it there for some reason. Take the fish to Living The Dream guide service, they are certified by the lunker program. They weigh it, it has a tag and lo and behold it was the Vernon fish the kid caught and it died. Friend of mine knows someone in the lunker program

Imagine being dumb enough to end up with a felony because you didn't want to pay for a bass replica.
imagine sitting in jail for a year over catching a fish when you have politicians stealing millions of dollars and never spending a day in court
