Yeah, I’ve fished w #7 on the list.
Of course 10 lb trout are rare, but one of the reasons I was told they dropped the limit in Big Lake was to make it a trophy trout place. I mean, why was the limit reduced in the first place? Catching numbers isn’t any better now and since the limit was dropped than it was before.
I assumed they were trying to promote it as a saltwater Toledo Bend. Stringers of big fish are nowhere near as common as they were. I know several guides in your neck of the woods, and they have all told me the same.
Outlawing gill nets, creating a limit of 50, dropping it to 25, all of that makes sense to me, for many reasons, including protecting the population. But with the expenses included, I just can’t see why reducing it from 25 makes sense.
If they really think the species population is in danger, why penalize the recreational guy. Let’s limit the guys who bring a boatload daily. How about we regulate the number of guide licenses to protect the endangered species?
BTW, IMO, that’s about as ridiculously necessary as reducing the limit

#8 is a wader and we have caught some nice fish together, imo it’s almost impossible today for anyone to duplicate the top ten on big lake out of a boat. Too many boats, too much pressure 7 days a week, too close to population centers like Houston, too many variables for any area in Louisiana to be saltwater trophy.
