My lawn mower will not run unless this flap on the carburetor stays shut. However, it does not stay shut unless I force it shut. Any ideas how to repair this? TIA

Disassemble the carb and clean it. Fuel is blocked.

You are activating the choke, like Cotton said needs cleaning bad.

Adding Marine Stabil to your lawnmower gas tank will help keep the carbs clean going forward.

Also, ethanol free gas helps as well.

Some say doing both of these things is redundant and they are correct but I do both anyway and my mower carbs don’t give me any trouble.

Ethanol gas? Stop using ethanol if you can and you will not have these issues.

That and every 6 months empty your can into your truck and get a fresh batch if you haven’t cycled thru it by then.

Get on the web. May be able to get a carb for next to nothing and swap it out.

I was given a Honda pressure washer that wouldn’t run because it sat too long. I took the carb apart, full of tar and crunchy shite, couldn’t get the main jet out or blow thru it. Got a Honda carb off Amazon for like 20 bucks and been using it for about 5 years now

You can buy Yamaha carb cleaner and soak the carb in that for a coupling hours. Will probably need a carb kit too. Sometimes cheaper to just buy another carb

Uncle came to our shop one day and said his fuel pump went out on his pickup. Towed it into our shop pulled the bed off pulled the fuel pump out of the tank and the tank was bone dry.
