my dad has a kimber solo cdp w/ a crimson trace, but if you want something smaller i recommend the Sig p938

it isn't a "true" 1911 because the lack of a beaver tail safety, but it is a helluva gun

Recently picked up this bad boy...

Very little recoil, and super light weight. Perfect for CC. The crimson trace grip is factory installed, and surprisingly accurate. 100 rounds through it so far with no issues.

It was the first I learned on, and my first handgun at 21 so I have some attachment to the design.

Same here, most likely why I hate it. I did well enough to qualify, but I have pretty high standards of marksmanship, and I had to find something to blame other than myself

Just an FYI on the compact 1911s...

If you get one.. make sure you put it through the trials before carrying it. Those things can be very finicky, because they were never designed to be that small. The smaller 1911s don't leave a lot of room for error.

That being said, some work great, and have no problems.

I had a Springfield EMP. I had to send it back twice before I could get it shooting reliably. I would put a couple hundred rounds through it ocassionaly to make sure it functioned alright. Told myself that if it ever messed up again, I'd get rid of it. Well it finally did, so I sold it. No point in having a carry weapon that costs that much that I can't have confidence in. Bought two guns in its place.

You'll get better customer service from springfield, but Kimber does have a 1 yr warranty. You should find something wrong with it in a year if something is going to happen. I've heard equal negative reports between SA and Kimber, regarding 3" 1911s.

Beautiful gun, sweet shooter... but terrible trigger. I removed the magazine safety on mine, which made the trigger tolerable, but it still needs some work.

Thanks for the advice, and thanks to everyone else that has chipped in as well.

I just cant see going to a 3" barrel though, I think I will look at the 4" options. Def wont be as comfortable to conceal, but I think I can manage.

I strongly recommend the SW1911SC. It has a scandium frame (lightweight) and the rounded grip so it's perfect for concealed carry. I have a full sized SW1911 tactical (w/rail) and it has been awesome. The whole E series of 1911 from Smith has quite a visual appeal.

BUMP

I emailed that company a couple times, they never got back to me.

I ordered one from another online company, the Pro Carry model with a 7 round capacity. Want to order magazines for it now, are these the ones you were referring to, the others were 8 round

The Wilson Combat 7 round mag is one of the most highly recommended out there. The original 1911s were only designed with a mag capacity of 7 rounds, although there are a ton of reliable 8 round mags out there. Chip McCormick and Checkmate also both make 10 round 1911 mags. I run the Checkmates in my Smith and they run well.

My recommended magazine brands...

Wilson Combat
Chip McCormick
Springfield
Kimber (made by Checkmate)
Checkmate
Tripp Cobra
Metalform
Colt

But, some 1911s are picky because the magazine feedlips can vary between magazines. This can cause the rounds to feed differently. My 1911 hated Chip McCormick 10 round power mags, but loves the 10 round Checkmate mags. You have to figure out which mags work best in your own 1911. I don't think you'll have trouble with your Kimber factory mags though.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised carrying the 4" Pro Carry. W/ the right holster and holster belt, you really shouldn't have any problems carrying it in comfort. Thus far, I've not found that much ease of carry between all steel Commander and Officer models. Your alloy Pro Carry at 28 oz should be very nice.

I carry my all steel Commander in a "Lone Wolf-T" and have been very happy w/ it. LINK

I've also been very pleased carrying my Kahr CW45 in a Side Guard Holsters "Tuck Clip."
LINK

The single clip is a lot more convenient than double clip holsters. Although your alloy Kimber is much lighter than all steel 1911's, it may be too heavy to be stable w/ a single clip holster. If interested in a single clip holster, I'd discuss it w/ your holster maker. Off hand, other holster makers that have single clip models include Wild Bill Concealment, UBG Holsters, and R. Grizzle Leather.

Be sure and get a quality Holster belt. I usually prefer leather belts, but for casual wear I like the 5 stich "Wilderness Instructor" belts.

I hope you like the Kimber as much as I think you will! :-)

Give us a review once you've shot the Kimber.

Will do, I am buying the pistol before I go to the class so I have an opportunity to break it in and get comfortable with it before I carry, but I am looking at these Crossbreed Holsters in horsehide, I have heard good things about them.

And as for the Kimber Factory mags, thats another reason I am ordering Wilson, the weapon only comes with one magazine

Bump...

Another reason to snag you a Kimber...

This guy is using an Ultra Carry II loaded with Winchester Ranger T, or the newer "Black Talon." This picture may not be the .45 ACP version, but it depicts how nasty the round is...
