Native had two kayaks that could be tandems or single, the Ultimate 14.5' and the Magic 14.5'. On the rare occaisions that she went with you, you could configure it as a two seater. Otherwise, single mode. The Magic has been discontinued, but you can still find them used.

Really your best bet is a canoe. Made for two, and you can turn it around and sit backwards in the front seat as a single boat.

The same answer with any outdoor gear, whatever she is comfortable with. Use the gear that fits the user. If she don't like it, she isn't going to use it.

Sit-ins are smaller, lighter, more maneuverable, and she won't get as wet.

She might like them better.

Some places will let you try them out particularly if you are buying used. If not, get a rental and see if she likes it.

back packer in baton rouge, and pack and paddle lafeyette and seal sports in mandeville. they sell malibu kayaks. I have a pro tandem 2 which can seat 2 people or 1 they also have smaller kayaks like the mini-x. the dude who owns it loves giving discounts

For 40$ the Backpacker will take whatever kayaks u wanna try and bring them to the lsu lakes for u.
