Are the tolls cash only? Been a few years since I passed through. Left the house at midnight

No. They take a pic of your tag and mail the bill. They don’t seem to get a pic when a cooler is on a hitch receiver.

I’ve rattled up seven bucks the past two mornings. No chasing yet. I had a big doe group come through yesterday pm and no buck was following them. No chasing seen yet.

It’s very entertaining when they are so responsive. How long are you staying? Seeing a few nice bucks driving around. Making first sit now

Slow evening. The wind calmed down and I made a long grunt. I’m watching the creek to the north of me where all the deer have been. Then I hear a buck hooking a tree behind me. I had to turn around and look. There he is at no more than 15 yards. 16” wide, but a bunch of long tines, including an 8” tine growing from the inside of the beam and going forward. I’m guessing a 150” buck. There’s limbs by me and by him but I see a gap. I’m in a chair and he’s eye level. I turn around, pick up my bow, and draw. I’m pushing my bow into brush and he’s just standing there. Sight picture is great. He’s quartering away. But a complete miss. A fletching is about torn off so I had to have hit a limb. He loops around into the bottom and stops behind a tree. I short wheeze him and he paws the ground. I grunt and wheeze again and he paws the ground again. Finally, he starts to walk. I draw, but he’s going too fast in my 35 yard gap and I can’t stop him. Didn’t seem too spooked. So I’ve got him and the 20” wide 8 from this morning in the same creek bottom. Wind change, so I’ll sit on the other side tomorrow.

Well damn, that’s bowhunting for you. You’ll put a bigger one down anyway. Are you beginning to see a few more mature bucks on their feet? I shot a doe last night to break the ice. Nippy out this morning

I sat a 5 acre hidden bean field along a creek yesterday afternoon. They had harvested all but the bottom two acres. I guess it was too wet. He showed up at 4 pm.

What does a lease go for these days? I used to hunt a lot of public ground in north central ks. Killed lots of good deer.

Not sure. I’m with an outfit that’s been around for a while. Mid America Hunting Assc. They have land in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. It’s $2,500 for the full year for all of the various hunting that’s available in those states. Of course, you need to draw for turkey and deer in Kansas and Iowa. I killed two turkeys in Missouri and this buck. I feel like I got my moneys worth. And I can be hunting in Missouri this afternoon if I wanted to.

That is an interesting setup that I’ve never heard of. My son and I have talked about deer hunting KS and IA but haven’t really dove into much since we don’t have property. So that $2,500 gets you access to all of their deer hunting properties in all 3 states? Are you limited in how many days you can hunt? Do you have a hard time reserving property? I spent a few minutes on their website but figured better to hear from a customer.

ETA - great deer

You have rights to access properties in all three states as long as you have a license for a season. For instance, you must show proof of Iowa deer tag to be able to make an Iowa deer reservation. I couldn’t always get every farm I wanted reserved, but was able to hunt four days on my first choice. You can reserve farms up to thirty days in advance and have a total of four reserved days on the books. I met three other members while I was up there. Good guys and hardcore hunters.
