I had about a dozen live perch and large minnows to use as bait and put them on some circle hooks on the 3 poles I use when fishing the river.

I only stayed out for just over 3 hours and caught 2 real nice flatheads and 2 nice blue cats to take home and clean.

Seat of the pants guess is close to 50 lbs. of fish between the 4 in the ice chest.

I have them in a 48 qt. Igloo and the two flatheads are tail up along the sides and the blues are just fitting between the sides.

Can't wait to get to cooking the flathead belly meat. That's for dinner tonight, along with some potato salad.

Of course, one should have been the size of a Volkswagon.

The actual river or borrow pits? I've seen some big fish in the latter while duck hunting.

The river right at the Industrial Canal on the Lower 9th side. Saw tons of while pelicans gathering in the river right where the Industrial Canal enters the river with only one brown pelican among them.

Had that spot to myself until around 10 when 2 more guys showed up looking to try their luck.

The current was so easy I only had to use 2 oz. sinkers to hold bottom.

You carry your AR-15 with you in that neighborhood?

You'd be surprised how many young white people are now in that neighborhood. I see them walking their dogs and jogging all along the levee around the Industrial Canal.

They are now calling it the "Holy Cross Historical District", which I find ridiculous since Holy Cross got destroyed in Katrina and has moved on to Gentilly for their new campus.

I follow the real estate pricing when it comes out on Saturday's paper and some of those old shotguns in that area are selling for stupid prices after they have been rebuilt.
