those prairie dogs are some cute frickers though, until you remember that they are pesky rats, that screw some shite up.

I have never shot a ground hog, I like seeing them too much, and as far as I know, they don't really cause much damage. Some of my friends love to shoot them though.

am hoping to try some challenging shots, more than just shooting hundreds of prairie dogs.

That's a nice thing about pd hunting....you can make it what you want to be. If you want your shots to be a little longer and challenging, that can be done. There's a long time guide in the Lubbock, TX area who emphasizes getting his hunters to make long shots of 500 yards or so.

How much do you have to worry about where you are set up to shoot, according to the wind? Meaning, do you have to worry about them smelling you, or can you set up so you don't have as much crosswind?

The problem w/ the wind is how it moves your bullets. You don't have to worry about them scenting you. We like to set up pop up a canopy (if it's not too windy) and shoot from rotating tables from the cargo box (preferred) or ground.

I like that set-up!

I personally prefer to deal with a wind on my back, compared to going across me, as long as scent isn't an issue.

Thanx very much, I'm about to make this a goal.

I have been multiple times in UT, CO and WY. Not sure if TX is somehow different but that isn’t enough scope for where I went. The dogs are fairly skittish and we couldn’t get close to the towns at all. 200-400 yard shots on some small critters in windy conditions called for some magnification.

There is only 1 thing, where God may have given me some sort of advantage..that is in my vision, especially at long distances.

I don't require nearly as much magnification as other people do.

Auggie, are you saying that you have vision with higher magnification than the average person?

I don't know if that is how it would be defined, or if it is just more clarity. I don't know what other people see.
It kind of freaks eye doctors out when I do one of the serious eye exams. I've had to those twice for certain jobs.

If I am shooting one of my cousin's rifles with the higher power scopes, I have to turn them way down and use a different mark on the reticle than he does, because somehow it changes the angle of the picture. His vision is 20/20 in both eyes

My vision is 20/05 in my left eye 20/10 in the right. That means that I can see clearly from 20 feet away what a person with 20/20 vision can see from 5 feet away, with my left eye. not quite as good with my right. I don't know if I can see objects larger, or if it's just clearer. I don't have any way to know.

It's the reason I started shooting left handed, back years ago, when I didn't even have rifles with scopes on them.
