Area 2 public
37° SE @ 4mph
Mathews lift RS
In my saddle between 2 thickets. Had a couple does come out at first light. Could hear some grunting in the thicket, but one of the does spotted me, blew, and they took off. Guessing whatever was grunting went with them.
Yesterday midday, things got a little western. Was walking out to trade out my lock on for my saddle. Walked up on a doe and was watching her. All of a sudden she takes off. Another doe with a pretty big 6pt behind her came busting out of a thicket. They came straight for me! The doe ran by without noticing me, but the buck saw me and took a quick 90° turn. I ranged where they were at the closest point. My rangefinder didn’t read, and it starts reading at 10 yards. Thought I was about to get run over

I’m a lefty and Bass Pro had a Ruger American that had been sitting there for about a year. They gave it to me for $400 or so. DIL is a lefty as well, and she uses it when she’s in camp.
Accurate rifle.

I planned on staying in the woods all day today, but my rangefinder battery died and I didn’t have an extra. So I made a quick trip to the store and then headed straight back in the woods. I moved over a little from my morning spot to a spot with a few good sized rubs. Hopefully the buck that made them comes through. So far, only a yearling has showed.
Update: the yearling bedded down and is sleeping 20 yards from me now. I guess that means I’m pulling security
