The biggest "weapon" I keep in my truck all the time is my 6 cell mag lite. I don't really even use it anymore, It's just a heavy piece of metal I can swing at things

Yeah getting expelled from school would be a pretty big deal for me so I'm not gonna risk it.
100% understandable. I am also a student here but I keep my 23 in my truck at all times. I have never had to pull it and never been in a situation has remotely called for it. However, it is the same reason people keep home defense guns at their house, it can happen.
I do not drink and drive, do not speed, and always try to follow all traffic laws. That gives LSU pd no reason to pull me over. But I am a realist and know that cops do pull over vehicles with little to no PC (I work for WL&F so I'm not hating). If and when you or myself get pulled over, that gun in my console, my knife on my side, your katana sword (everyone has those in their trucks right?) or even your flashlight can be interpreted as a weapon.
Basically, I choose to keep my gun in my truck even with the possibility of facing LSU reprimand. Now if you're not a student, no reason not to stock up.

I think as long as it fits in your car, you are ok.

I speed and drive like an a-hole sometimes, I'm surprised LSU PD hasn't pulled me over yet.
Once I get my pistol, and I'm outta here, it's staying with me.
I'm assuming you're referring to a Glock 23? I'm leaning heavily toward a Glock myself.

I have a pretty big buck knife in my truck, probably violates all the rules. If I had a gun that stayed in my truck I wouldn't think twice about parking on campus.

I had a machete for a while but it broke. SOG machetes they had on sale at BPS a couple years back, they were total POS
Snapped in half when my dad was hacking a branch with it.

That I do. I am sure that you have heard plenty of good things and plenty of bad things, this is my 2 cents:
Great pistol
Will not win any beauty pageants
Accurate as necessary to 15-20 yards
Won't jam or break
I am am about to retire the kimber and looking at getting another .45 and it is between glock and sig.

I'm looking at a Glock 21 and XDm 45 myself.
I found this interesting link the other day. Probably deserves it's own thread

To confirm what Ice Cream Sammich said here is the law or at least the part of the statute that matters. The entire definition and conditions is much longer.
RS 14:95.2
§95.2. Carrying a firearm, or dangerous weapon, by a student or nonstudent on school property, at school-sponsored functions or firearm-free zone
A. Carrying a firearm, or dangerous weapon as defined in R.S. 14:2, by a student or nonstudent on school property, at a school sponsored function, or in a firearm-free zone is unlawful and shall be defined as possession of any firearm or dangerous weapon, on one's person, at any time while on a school campus, on school transportation, or at any school sponsored function in a specific designated area including but not limited to athletic competitions, dances, parties, or any extracurricular activities, or within one thousand feet of any school campus.
C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to:
(5) Any constitutionally protected activity which cannot be regulated by the state, such as a firearm contained entirely within a motor vehicle.
