I've read where a 12 gauge with 3 1/2s will do the same job.

I think 10 is better for geese and makes it easier for Turkeys.

Not like a 10 ga 3.5"
WTH are you hunting to need a 10 guage?

Depending on what you're hunting.
I use a 3.5in and don't have problems.
Plus 12s with 3.5 have better recoil suppression
than 10 gauge.

I read this article
Interesting read. I always shot handloads out of a 10 gauge double barrel for turkey and geese. After reading this article- I may have to look into the value of the 10 gauge.

Only benefit you'll see for geese with the 10 is for pass shooting.
Learn to set a decoy spread and call a little and you won't need the 10.

My stepdad has a 10 gauge he brings along to the goose field. You'd be truely amazed how much further it shoots!

I have a camo 3.5 inch 10 gauge single shot with a reddot scope on top that I use for turkey hunting
Yes, it's a beast

I bring my 10 gauge with a few buck shot when I go goose hunting, plenty of range.

I had a SP 10 that I deer hunted with but it would shot buckshot worth a damn, i did kill a few with it though.
I bought a box a steel shot for it and shot skeet just for shits and giggles, it would powder them every shot!
Hardly any recoil but heavy ended up trading it for a Beneli Black eagle

No matter how good you can call and set up spreads, you still have passing shots.... Not many people have a spread that is set up for both specs and snows/blues.... Mainly b/c of the shear amount of work it takes to hunt snows/blues.... My best friend probably has around 1000 rags/socks that we use from time to time, but only gets used when they are actually feeding in his fields or the ones around it. Usually just set up with 42 full body specs and kill our limit of them... The 10 definitely is a difference maker, i shoot a 3 1/2 and it doesn't have that reach that his does or the ability to drop that bird at longer distances.... for the passing or indecisive group of snows.... and fwiw we can call.... thanks to ol mervis
