My wife won a Ruger American compact 308. I think I've decided to keep it as a backup or for my nephew to use. Don't want to buy an expensive scope. Any recommendations for under $200? I see Nikon Buckmaster for $149, anyone know anything about them?

Nikon Prostaff is a good scope in that price range. LINK

I have a nikkon buckmaster (i think) and I think it's pretty excellent for the price point. Mine held zero for 10 years on my .30-30 and I beat the shite out of that gun

Either Nikon prostaff or Buckmaster. The pawn shop not far from me has the buck master for 99.

Nikons Prostaff or Buckmaster are the best inexpensive scopes out there. I have several and never had a problem.

I had a buck master a long time ago when I was college poor. It worked fine. Matter of fact, I think I gave it to a buddy and he's still using it.

Nikon is a fine scope. I'm a much bigger fan of Vortex scopes. Very high quality of glass for the price and lifetime transferable warranty.

Swift makes a good inexpensive scope and +1 on Nikon.

I was in the same boat a few years ago. I won a Tikka .270 and just wanted a cheap scope to put on it for a back-up gun. I ended up putting a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44 and love it. I now shoot that gun as my #1 and keep my Browning A-Bolt Medallion with a Leupold as my backup.

Cant do much better than nikon on sub-$200 scopes. Put one on an inherited 30-06 Woodsmaster as a back up bush rifle. 2" groups all day long @ 100yds, but that's more on the rifle and me than the scope.
