without some pain and suffering
So is it some pain and suffering or death? Let me know when you are up for a 17 mph car to drive you on the hood into a brick wall. And this is only a 10' fall.

No scenario is a fall from 15'+ only a damage to an ego

To be honest its insulting for old boy to come over and inform me it was dodgy
So you were insulted he came over to tell you something a child would know was dodgy?? And that's what insulted you??

also did not offer to hold the damned ladder like a normal man would do
Was that before or after you had words with him?

And yet you chose to put a f*ckin 14' ladder in the back of a pickup truck.

A fall from a height of 15 foot is considered a "major fall" or "significant fall" to medical personnel- doesn't matter so much what you land on as how you land on.
Land directly on your feet, you're likely to fracture ankles, tib/fib or jam the head of your femur up into your pelvis cracking it. Can you fall from that height and walk away with nothing but a good jarring? Sure- but it's a big risk.
Fall and land in any other position, and the very least you're going to do is crack (closed fracture) bones or wrench joints. Land on your head, shoulders or upper back, and your cervical vertebrae can break- which is deadly- or you, literally, rattle your brain and never recover.

A fall from 10' results in you achieving ~17 mph speed when reaching the ground. This equates to being hit by another person your same weight at 35 mph.
This imaginary baw might want to check knuckles. I'm playing for keeps.

If you tuck and roll it is.
We used to jump off the press box in high school onto the baseball field.

Brazos Bend state park
Gators there are no joke. While I haven't heard of any attacks, the amount of bull gators there is impressive. You can hear them growling from a ways off. It's also a little ominous how close the walking paths are to the edge of the ponds where the gators are laying. I haven't checked out the camping locations, but not sure I'd camp that close to any water near there.
