Smart. There is value in having access to a vehicle that is 'off the grid' so to speak.

If that happens I'm pretty much screwed and would have to hunker down in my house. If I can make it to my camp I have boats with older outboards that could get me anywhere in the local vicinity.
That's my families rally point during Alas Babylon.

i'd also assume that in our state/area lots of our friends/neighbors could live on their own. meaning you could work together to survive. not so much in a city where a lot of people don't know jack and have no access to water.

I have a pretty large network of friends and family in on the rally point plan too. A bunch of former and current military, life long coonasses, a few doctors, an engineer, plenty of guns and ammo.
If all goes according to plan we'll have a pretty solid hold up if the need ever comes.

You could carry a shite ton of ammo and several bobcat mounts in the back of that ride.

My understanding is that EMP would damage things attached to the electric grid, cars would be ok, but good luck pumping gas...

I don't know. I think it would last a good while, even in an urban area. You start putting holes in people and the guy standing being them usually don't hang out too long.

A moving car making a ton of noise would stick out like a sore thumb, drawing lots of attention to you.

Drive at night with mostly covered headlights like in WWII? Disconnect all other lights.
