10 years ago one summer the swamp burned in a certain area and cleared it out, we slaughtered the ducks back there every time we went that season...man, the good old days

I know the vicinity of it but don't exactly know where it is. We have our own launch at our camp. I often wondered how other people got back there when the water was high, but someone told me about it. I actually caught a mess of bass back there about a month ago.

I'm from Prairieville, but hunt in a club down there that has been around for ages. Mostly Ascension Parish people.

Do you know downshift, or know if you know him?

There were many theories including 4 wheelers but there was talk of a certain someone lighting it up, it was dry that year. I don't think it was ever determined...I was in high school at the time, and if i remember it was late sep/oct when it happened. School was cancelled for about 3 days b/c u couldnt see 10 ft in front your face in the mornings when the smoke settled in over town.

It was a smoldering fire that burned through the undergrowth...there were charred stumps back there for a couple years, I think I have some pictures that I will try to find, it left the swamp totally cleared out with clear water that winter that we would pushpole through with pirogues

I remember that. Thicker than any fog I've ever seen.

I know back in the day when my dad was younger he used to duck hunt in the swamps off of blind river north of airline. That was before it was WMA, they used to make little platforms above the water by their spots to stand on, but he said you had to go pretty deep in there to find good duck holes. They always killed a few but never slaughtered them. That was a good 25 years ago though, I have no idea what the ducks are like back there now. If I had a go devil I'd probably give I a try though

At our place, it's nothing but wood ducks, and they are few and far between most of the time. Seeing one flock of mallards the entire year is a stretch.

They used to slay the ducks in the late 80's back there.
