I'm starting a project to make my own homemade version of the new Higdon Pulsator feed butts with the internal battery packs instead of the older style where the battery is sunk under water in a box. I have looked around online and seen a couple guides to making the old version, but nothing on the newer style, so I thought I'd gauge the interest if anyone would be interested in a build guide thread on this and Ill post progress if anyone is interested. Ive also added a remote control and the ability to go with a bigger battery than the higdon comes with.

Anyways here is a rough schematic of what I was thinking:

And pics of the different higdon versions for reference:

"rough schematic"

I'd have that drawn on a napkin with a sharpie.

I have two of the new version Pulsators (we call them arse-blasters) and I love them. Don't love the $125 price but it isn't too bad compared to the other duck hunting gear I buy.

Yeah they are pricey, I've always wanted them , I just never could get behind the battery in the water, the big box, and all the cable just seems like something thats going to end up a clusterfrick. The new way is the only way to go

Do they have a heater and can they be used in flooded corn?

The battery in the new version is in the decoy body. You plug the charger directly into the decoy where you plug in the pump. ETA: Didn’t realize you were OP and obviously know that.

My friend and I each have had 1 for two seasons and a second one for this past season (so 4 total). No problems whatsoever and I definitely could’ve taken better care of them.

Have had two seasons on my two pintail butts (XS pulsator). Only problem I’ve had is wish I had four of them

They’re expensive but work great, long battery life.

It's going to be about 90 a decoy I think, so the savings isn't huge, but the battery and life will be about 50% more and they will have the remote control to turn them off/on from the blind, plus it'll be a fun little project

I made a few several years ago. They worked great, ducks would actually land right on top of them. I had to caution guys not to shoot the "butt up" decoy. At first I had the battery in the blind with about 50-75 feet of lamp cord or an old extension cord. I used the blinker relay which worked pretty good. Phase 2 was the battery in a small plastic container, which was inside a lawn mower tire innertube. This model had a 12v remote. I could connect 2 "butt up" decoys to the battery. I recommend the remote so you can turn the decoy on and off as needed and conserve battery power. Also, I made a swimming decoy and had dual exhausts out the back. When I turned the setup on I had 2 butt ups and a swimmer. This made all the other decoys move.

Did anything ever come of this project? I'd like to build one myself.
