Thieves is the correct term, but you are right.
It is a sad thing to me the way this trade has gone. If there is one good thing to come from this economy is that people have less to spend which means they will insist on repairs over replacement 95% of the time. In turn, this drives the shite for brains and thieves out, just as it did during the Carter years. They will be back, thedirtysonsofbitches, but it will be a while.
We grey beards know what the flat bellies can't understand; I'm not going to get rich off of one customer and if I rip him off, I wont have any customers....aww hell, I'll stop now before I start sounding like some bitter old fart that shakes his fist at children and talks about the good old days.

Yes, drier is being replaced. Said you had to, "you never know what kinda crap is in there"
Excellent. You keep doing business with that company, develop a good relationship with them and you will be well served and happy for a long time to come. But remember to always "Trust but verify."

I just by new coils online, solder them myself, vacuum the system for 1 hour, and get all my stuff like freon and coil cleaners from ACME.
I can honestly replace either an evaporator or condenser coil for under $400 for R-22 or around $600 for R-410A

You do know that time is only relevant to the evacuation process because the evacuation process takes time, right?
