FWIW, if I was the agent and I knew OP never saw me, had no idea I was there, and he comes walking up with a filled out tag, I wouldn't write the ticket.
Then we agree.

You are supposed to tag the deer in immediately upon harvest. Has to be filled out with month, day, and parish of kill, and called in within 72 hours.

Tag has to stay with the carcass while at camp or until transported to your home.

Sounds like my neck of the woods. Generation of revenues completely trumps species conservation.

So if I'm a game warden, and I happen upon a deer without a tag in a skinning shed, I'd have to assume someone is trying to save a tag.

Let's say I drop a deer in the middle of the pipeline, and there's hunters on other stands on the same pipeline. Do I risk getting shot (stupidity or line of fire shooting at a deer) or getting fined by the green jeans?

You tag it when you walk up to it.

I get what you're saying, but I would at least hope that you would text the people hunting around you to let them know that you're getting out of the stand to get the deer.

And had some orange.

By the letter of the law, I would agree. But like I said earlier, if I can determine without a doubt that he never saw me coming, I'd probably just issue a warning. How often you run into a situation like that...beats the hell out of me. Probably not often.

While I understand what you're saying, I was pretty surprised that he was there, as was everybody that was around the skinning shed looking at the deer. First time I've ever seen green jeans on our lease in almost ten years of hunting there. The guys that have been hunting there their whole lives said that they haven't seen one come up there in probably 15 years.

I'm with you, if I knew I wasn't seen.

Most everyone else is quick to jump on it and say this is BS, but at what point would they say it isn't BS? When the game warden actually catches someone in the act of skinning a deer without a tag on it?

A skinning shed is generally where a deer is skinned. If there is a deer without a tag on it in the skinning shed, I'd assume it's about to get cut up.
