Holster Review: DeSantis Slim-Tuk

Last spring I bought a Kimber Micro 9 for concealed carry. I wanted to carry it using a leather IWB holster. I couldn’t settle on which one I wanted and didn’t want to wait many weeks for a custom holster. When I came across the immediately available DeSantis kydex "Slim-Tuk" holster, I decided to give it a try. After a few minutes on Amazon Prime and 48 hour waiting on the shipment, I had a new holster. Since I’ve used the holster for a few months, I thought I’d share my experiences. I prefer a single clip holster w/ the clip being the frame as it contributes to a thinner package. I prefer to carry my IWB holster over my right hip pocket w/ a 10 deg forward cant. Now days most holsters w/ a single, offset clip have a neutral position as they're designed for appendix carry.
Advantages: The holster is inexpensive, thin, readily available w/o wait from numerous sources, sturdy, allows the gun to draw nicely and holds well to the belt.
Disadvantages: The holster is uncomfortable when carried IWB. The holster doesn’t have a “side guard” to prevent the upper part of the gun frame from rubbing against you. I always wear a shirt when carrying, but that doesn’t stop the gun from rubbing. After carrying for a few hours, there’s usually a red spot on my skin where the frame/rear sight has rubbed. This doesn’t happen w/ my other IWB holsters that have a “side guard.” In addition, I like my IWB holster to have a 15 degree cant, unlike the neutral postion of this holster. The holster is advertised as having an adjustable cant, but that’s not quite true. When you adjust the holster to have a cant, the belt clip and the part of the holster above the trigger guard interferes w/ your fingers drawing the gun.
Final decision: I’ll keep the holster, but it won’t see much use once I get a different IWB holster. At that point, I’ll use the DeSantis in bad weather or hunting. Under those circumstances I’ll use it as an OWB holster, carrying it a 3 o’clock, between my belt and waistband.

Side Guard on the left, DeSantis on the right. Notice the clearance between the gun grip and the holster on the Side Guard, but not the DeSantis.
So what do I do now? Looks like I’ll be waiting 7-8 weeks for a Side Guard "Tuck Clip." And I still prefer leather.
