Help with my kitchen sink

Need some help here gentlemen. Open the cabinet on Sunday to my garbage disposal dripping water from the reset button. A quick Google search led me to assuming water had gotten in the motor. I unplugged it, removed it, and went to get a new disposal. Got the new one installed without any issue. Turn the water back on and fired up the disposal and it's all working great, until I notice the water coming up from the drain on the other side. I have taken apart and cleaned all the pipes, and run a snake abut 10ft into the pipes. No clogged pipes, yet the disposal still fills up the other side of the sink. Anyone have any suggestions to help me out?

Hook up exactly the same? What I mean is, did the new disposal change the angle of the drain pipes?

Hook up is exactly the same. Only difference is how big around the disposal is. The new one is a little smaller in diameter, but same hp, piping exactly the same though

Do you have a dishwasher and is it being run when you notice the issues?

Yes, I have a dishwasher. No, I haven't run the dishwasher since connecting the new disposal.

I had similar problems and found that some idiot plumber had put a 90 turn in the wall. So it backed it all up. Point us u may need to go more 10.

The water is simply taking the path of least resistance, you likely have a restriction of some type in the drain line, perhaps not enough to stop drainage but there is something there, be it plumbing design or clog.

Did you remove the plug for the dishwasher drain?
Did you remove the plug from the main outlet of the disposal.
Water filling up means a restriction, what's the inside of your p trap look like?

Tough questions. From many yrs of experience I'd id go more than 10 ft. And try to adjust the disposal drain. 10 should have been enough but lawd knows what that plumber did. I assume that there is no outside clean out near the sink?

Here is the correct answer

Yes, the new disposal came with the dishwasher outlet plugged; and I punched it out.

I don't believe there was a plug there. I have removed the disposal again and disconnected the drainage pipe from it and there was some water in it running down to the P trap on that side of the sink.

It's clean now. wasn't at first. I have removed the p trap from both sides of the sink all the way up to the "Y" piece of pipe that goes into the wall. Everything under the cabinet is now clean, and clear of any blockage. I ran the snake in from the "Y" piece, and wasn't really able to get any blockage out from it.
Just doesn't make sense that the sink was working fine Saturday and draining fine, then Sunday the old disposal starts leaking from the reset button. Everything I read suggested that this meant the plate that protected the motor had been compromised and allowed water into the motor, thus the disposal needed to be replaced.

reading your and every one else's comments it sounds like ya tried almost every thing and it is confusing. Could it be that since the new one is new the pump puts out more volume or pressure. I seem to remember helping a friend change his and there being a check valve on the other sink to prevent back flow not sure though been a few years and beers ago.

Do you have a cleanout on the outside of the house right there?

did side plumbing work for a bit... remove disposal and put a piece of pipe there and see if it drains or not then get back to the OB. best thing ive done was remove that stinky thing

I assume you have a dual basin sink and the water is coming up on the non-disposal side, right?
Does it only come up if you run the disposal? Not when you simply run water thru the disposal side?

Correct

Correct...faulty disposal?

I have to assume the configuration, but there should be a pipe that comes out of the disposal and then it "tees" into the drain just above the p-trap. Sometimes that tee has a flange within the pipe that is angled at a 45 deg angle. It acts to direct the water down towards the trap. I will bet that when you reinstalled everything you installed the Tee piece upside down and it is directing water upward. normal water flow doesn't have the force to get up to the drain but when the disposal forces it faster, it shows up higher in the pipe, maybe into the basin.

Under my sink looks very similar to this picture with a few slight differences. 1) My disposal is on the right, and the other sink has a straight pipe off the drain where this picture has a 45. 2) My "Y" pipe also has a middle pipe that is plugged.

So this picture really doesn't help.
Have you put any food down the disposal since you reinstalled?

No, just water. I've tried plunging it as well and get some nasty particles up in the sink, but still no drainage.
