Let me also say that anything more than using a lawnmower or very small tractor is out of the question. Plowing/ tilling, etc ain't happening.

well then you better get 2-4-D or MSM to kill the shitty grass and promote the good stuff. I know I spray Grazon to promote Rye in my pastures. MSM or 2-4-D should eliminate the weeds, just not sure if it will kill any St. Aug you may have going.

Trust me, once you knock the weeds in the arse and start maintaining it, the good grass will grow. if you can't till/disc, hit it chemically and keep it cut.

They do have a mower that can handle it and it will be on me to keep it cut. I just need to get it started. If it's down, it can be cut in an hour or two. Just need to get it started

Why are you cutting their yard for them? You are going to mow 2 acres once a week for 7 months of the year for someone else? I mean who the heck owns that much land with no plans to maintain it themselves?

If that's truly the case, as said you need to get some spray and nuke some of the non grass and then start cutting it regularly. The reason you have so much dead grass is you are waiting too long to cut it.

Think it’s his in laws. Quit busting his balls. I mow about 8+ acres every week for seven months and I’m not getting anything extra for all the work.
And if the property owners are elderly, I can easily understand why they aren’t maintaining it themselves

Wind row it, burn piles or remove the piles for burning, and mow more frequently going fwd. many herbicide options will allow you to focus on promoting one grass.

Just mow more often. You'll quickly get rid of the cut grass.

Yeah, I'm doing it because I'm not a crappy son-in-law and want to help my inlaws who can't handle it any more themselves. Screw doing something just to help people, right?

I'm goin try a few burning suggestions then see how it goes. Hopefully can get it semi-under control his winter then have it ready to easily maintain next spring.

be careful with burning it. Looks like you have neighbors close by. They may start bitching unless you live on the West side of the river where we are cool with burning stuff.

My dad and I damn near burned the neighbors hay fields one year trying to accomplish the same goal you are.
Amazing how quickly fire can move with just a little wind.

Phase 1 complete. Windrowed it with the lawnmower, raked it into piles (about 100 piles!), and burned it.

So far so good.....
