It is time for me to start replacing some decoys this year...I know it is going to cost a bunch so going to probably get a dozen or so at a time lol. Which would you chose either Avian-X or Dakota decoys? I have hunted over Dakota's before and loved them but I also like the look of Avian's so help me with some pros and cons for both.

Dakota’s are heavy as shite. Look awesome on the water through. No experience with the Avian

Check out spring back. If you are constantly picking up and throwing out they are nice.

For realism and durability, I'm on the Avian X train these days. GHG has always had realism but usually poor paint, though better these days on the ProGrade's. Got some Avian X grays last year and they've been outstanding; exceptional realism and paint has been great.

Higdon's product is very tough as well, obviously the foam filled ones being the best in that, and only slightly less on the realism than AX.

G&H is a very durable product from an American company, but realism isn't on par with what others have developed. Some argue "who cares?" on the realism, but if I spend a fortune on everything else, I'm damn sure going to have the most realistic looking dekes I can get my hands on.

Lot of other brands coming along as well...Tanglefree and even Academy's brand are nice looking for the price.

Dakota's are top notch, though I feel many of their poses/carvings look cartoonish more than actually true to life.

What species are you looking at? I like some Dakotas and some Avian-X depending on the species.

And what kind of hunting are you doing? Walk-in hunting where weight is a big consideration? Is space a concern? Are you leaving them out for long periods of time?

I have been looking and can not decide either. I am leaning towards avian x though.

I need all species, mallards, gadwall, specks, snows. This is about to get real expensive.

I’m mostly needing mallards and grey ducks to start being replaced. I’m not too terrible worried about weight because I bring my boat 98% of the time I go and def not leaving these out. This are the decoys for when I travel somewhere and mostly used in timber or small pockets.

Lots of good options for both those species: Avian X, GHG ProGrade, Higdon, Tanglefree, etc. Watch for deals where you can buy them pre-rigged with TX rigs on sites like Rogers Sporting Goods.
