I've owned a boat with a buddy for several years no problem.

What about going in on a fishing camp with someone? Anyone have any experience with that? No one can use a place every single weekend, so I thought it might be a way to manage the cost of owning one. Currently considering this with a friend.

I'm currently partners in a boat. We each put a set amount each month in an account for expenses and repairs. We don't schedule usage, first come first served. Works best for us that way.

No problems so far. We are both laid back people.

Sailboat partnerships are fairly common. Operating costs are minimal and the more you use it, the better.......

Most sailboats do not get used very often.

Sounds like a horrible idea.

Had a bad experience sharing a camp with a few other guys. Me and a friend were on the same page and the other 2 were on a different, frugal, selfish page.

They would never cook, offer to clean up when me or my friend would cook for everyone, wouldn't do any maintenance and would shoot down any ideas for improvements to the camp.

Got to the point where we didn't want to be there if they were there, so my friend and I wrote up a notice to buy them out and they fought it for awhile and threatened to bring attorneys into and all that mess. They finally agreed to the buy out but it was a huge headache.

Moral of the story.... even if it's with your best friend, brother, dad, whoever.... Be sure to sit down beforehand with the partner and put everything you can think of on paper that y'all can agree on. It can save a lot of trouble and a relationship if things were to go south for whatever reason.

Owned a 3o' boat with a buddy. Best and easiest experience ever. Zero issues. Owned together for 5 years then we sold for more than we paid.

I've know of two instances where two of my friends decided to do this. Both ended horribly.
