re: Have you ever had to use your pistol to deter a human threat?

I guy was riding my arse in my neighborhood a couple of years ago. I had my newborn son in the car (he was a couple of months old). I tapped the brakes to get him off my arse and the guy goes ape shite. He followed me into the Walgreens parking lot and gets out of his car. I get out with my pistol drawn on him and told him if he took another step it would be his last.
He gets all defensive and I told him to get his car a drive away.
He did.
1st and only time my pistol has been out of it's holster in my car, other than practice shooting of course.

Came in for the App. State game in 2008 and had to leave on I49 with evacuation traffic. Stopped just outside of Alex at a gas station for the wife to go to the restroom. I had preparred for the weather and the trip and brought two extra 5 gal gas cans on top of the suburban. When we stopped the parking lot was packed and it was evident they were out of gas. Just as she got to the door, the manager locked it and shut the store since they were "out of change". In the minutes that passed, there were multiple people eyeing the gas cans I had on the roof. I wished I had had a gun but I didnt end up needing one.
Since that time I carry anytime we travel. On a return visit to BR a year later we stopped in Shreveport to get gas and as we were getting back on the interstate one of the kids knocked over their milk, so we pulled into the only parking lot avaialbe, an abandoned hotel right next to the onramp. Similar to the OP a guy comes out from the back of the building and from 50 yrds out starts asking for money to fix his non existent car. Despite telling him I wasnt going to give him any money he kept approaching. At 30 yrds I told him to stop coming closer. At 25 yards I puncuated that sentence with the buisness end of my .40. The guy all but shite his pants and fell over backwards trying to retreat.
When I lived in Ft Worth I had another instance where a random guy that wandered into my back yard through the alley was giving me a huge line of reccuring excuses until I presented the 12 gauge that I had been hiding just behind my leg. He was clearly high on something and I am certain the gun prevented me from having to kick his arse.

I was driving home back in the mid nineties with my pregnant wife through downtown Shreveport late at night. I noticed two cars full of homies. One car following the other too close and driving aggressively. I got stuck at a red light with them and knew this was about to get bad so I pulled out my pistol and told my wife to get in the floorboard because she was between me and them.
One of them pulled a pistol. I saw it and put my sites on him in their passenger seat. He then hangs the gun out the window and starts shooting at the car in front of them who immediately bolts and runs the light. The driver of the shooting car looked over at me and realizes I'm going to blow his dreadlocks all over the idiot in the other seat and his eyes got freaking HUGE and he punched it and ran.

I haven't been in a situation, but I def. have woken up in the middle of the night thinking I hear stuff. I just moved into my house I bought. It is a good neighborhood, but I guess I'm a little paranoid sometimes. My g/f moved in with me so its a little different when you have someone you want to protect too.
I have run through my head all the different things I'd try and do for different situations and how someone may try and enter my home

I had my dads 44mag and I pointed it out the window. Thats all it took.

Luckily I've never had an incident. I have driven down 70th through the Grove here in Shreve holding my gun and having my head on a swivel.

I was leaving my office one night in Shreveport, and kidnapped, and carjacked at gunpoint. I managed to escape while the guy was trying to tie my hands behind my back. I still have bad day/night dreams about it, and I'm kind of getting tensed up just typing this as I remember that night.
For a long time thereafter, I carried a .357 pretty much everywhere I went. I pulled it twice on people coming up to my truck asking for money. Neither were PROBABLY a threat, but I am NOT going to go through that again.

At the time, I was working right around the corner of Line and Pierremont. There's a really nice, one story, brick building just west of Line on the south side of Pierremont. It kind of backs up though to the edge of the Grove. Apparently, the guy could see me working alone in the building through the windows, and set up on me. He was waiting on me when I walked out. Put me in the car, made me drive him to Betty Virginia Park. Gun at the back of my head the whole time. He told me to put my hands behind my head. Since I could feel both his hand on mine, I knew he didn't have the gun in hand, so I bolted out the front door, and took off running up Ockley. He got hung up in child lock doors...I was almost too line by the time he got out. Stole the truck, all that. They found it at Huntington High school.
to Line rather.

Holy shite dude. I work on Fairfield and drive that way often. Glad you got out of it unscaithed.

Thanks. It sucked. Stupid thing was that office was basically a "clubhouse". We prolly had 5 shotguns in there, along w/golfclubs, and other boys toys that would have been awesome weapons. I had worked until about ten that night, and actually thought about carrying a gun out with me.

Yea, the part of your story that would've fricked me was that he caught you before you got to your truck. It's illegal for me to CC at my job so my SHTF plan has a flaw.

If y'all would have had your gun in the side bin, it may would have still worked out for you. I mean, you couldn't have reached for it when the end of his gun barrel is touching the back of your head, but maybe as you bolted out? Grab it? At least it's a fair fight at the point.

I had to pull a gun on alexa one night when she came banging on my door at 3 am. she was there to see creed but he passed out and wouldnt answer his phone.
I woke up to someone kicking my door down at Azalea Point when I lived there. Grabbed my 30-06 out of my closet and when I got in the living room I could hear my drunk arse roommate laughing on the other side.
I was tempted to let him finish the door off and scare the shite out of him with the gun, but I just unlocked the door and went back to my room before I beat the shite out of him.

While I was in Zambia visiting Victoria Falls, a young African male asked us if we would like to sneak into Zimbabwe. Being the idiots we were, we said yes. A long windy path up the hill, under a chain link fence, and 20 minutes later and we were standing on a bridge that is split in half between Zambia and Zimbabwe. After taking a few pictures in front of the "You are now in Zimbabwe" sign (or whatever it said) we got a little cocky and wanted to see the falls on the Zimbabwe side. Next thing I knew there were men with AKs wrestling with me and I could see my friend's back (he was running in the other direction). I FREAKED, to say the least.
Later I kind of put 2 and 2 together and realized the dude that asked us to sneak into Zimbabwe was probably just trying to get us into the hands of the kidnappers. Zimbabwe is bad. Worst economy in the world.
ETA I wish I would have had a handgun.

I was at work in midcity area one morning (not far from where Betty Smothers was killed) before daylight. Went outside to get some change for coke machine. A coworker was getting some stuff out of her trunk at that time. There was a guy walking towards us from across the parking lot. He starts yelling at us as he was walking. Middle of August and he has on an army jacket and his hands in his pockets. I tell the coworker to get behind me and I pull 357 mag out. He comes to about 5 ft in front of my truck and stops. I never understood what he wanted or what he was saying. I cocked it and pointed it at him. It was at a crucial point in the altercation. I couldn't see his hands and I told him to carry his a$$ back the way he came from. I had made the decision with thoughts racing in my head that if he came any closer he was getting every one I had in the cylinder. The only two witnesses I wanted at that trial were going to be me and my co-worker.
I can say stuff happens very fast and you better have your mind made up
