Anybody that can work an iPhone can build an AR. But that’s besides the point because his dad bought it 11 years ago.
ETA: He also scored 1500 on the SAT, far from a moron.
I’m not saying he was a genius, he obviously made some dumb decisions, but building an AR, with all of the information on the internet, wouldn’t be that hard.
