I want to get 4 new tires for my vehicle and the local shops close to my house have pretty shitty inventory. TireRack.com seems to have some pretty good tires (based on Consumer Reports rankings) for good prices. Supposedly they'll ship direct to one of the local shops who will then charge their nominal fees to install the tires.
I'm just wondering if any of you have used TireRack.com in this manner and if it's as seamless as they make it out to be on their website. TIA.
We ordered a set for my wife's old car and had them shipped to Firestone on Siegen. TireRack actually negotiates pricing for mounting and balancing, so be sure to verify that before picking a shop. I believe Firestone on Siegen actually came down off of the negotiated price when we called. It was absolutely the way to go. Saved us probably $500. Got quality tires for less than the locals were selling the bargain trash.

Never used TireRack but the tires and rims on my truck came from National Tire and Wheel. Free shipping, no tax and they came to my door mounted/balanced and with the pressure sensors. Nitto Terra Grapplers on 18x9 fuel revolver 8 lug.

My tire guy told me he has no problem putting on tires bought online. He charges $20 a tire to mount balance and install. I'll go with that next time if I can free shipping and no tax.
