I have a 27x70 mirror with the frame that my wife wants mounted on the door in the bathroom. If I had to guess it probably weighs 20-30lbs.

How in the hell am I going to get that to hang on a hollow interior door?

My real answer is to get the brackets that attach to the back of the mirror, and hang on the top of the door. Door still closes usually.

Make sure you you put longer screws on the door hinges to catch a stud. Just pull a screw or two out of each one and put longer ones in.

Hang it on a wall instead. We thought about the door, but it made more sense to mount it solidly to the wall with anchor bolts. If you had a wood door it would be no problem, but I accidentally busted a hollow door a couple of years ago. I wouldn't trust hanging something on one of those.

If it’s 70” tall, does it fall on the top blocking in the door? Can you add blocking to it if it’s not there?

What about through bolting to the other side of the door?

I think it’s going to deform your door over time and cause problems. I wouldn’t do it. If she insists, over the door hangers only.

Contact a glass company and ask how they would hang the mirror. If you are in BR, try M&M Glass @ 225-272-9143. Maybe they will be helpful.

I've bought tempered glass shelves from them and they great to work with (of course, I was buying the shelves)

This.

If your wife want see your reasoning as to why you shouldnt hang it on the door then its a lost cause.

In all seriousness, expect to be either replacing the door or cleaning up a broken mirror inside of 6 months.
